Winter 2024:

The Novel

Come read a satirical travelogue about postcolonial India, narrated by a donkey! In Winter 2024, we'll be focusing on Krishan Chander's 1957 Ek Gadhe ki Sarguzasht/Ek Gadhe ki Atmakatha, which follows a talking donkey around Delhi as he satirizes government bureaucracy, interviews Prime Minister Nehru, and judges a beauty contest. We'll be reading parts of this novel, as well as working on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Prerequisite is 2nd year Hindi or Urdu, or the equivalent. Students with advanced proficiency in Hindi or Urdu are invited to email the instructor to talk about placement.
