AL&L Faculty Lead Workshops for Montgomery College Colleagues on Asian Language Instruction

Submitted by Ben Rost on

This past spring, a group of four AL&L faculty offered a series of four workshops to colleagues at Montgomery College in Maryland for instructors of Asian languages. Coordinated by the Center for Applied Linguistics and AL&L's Prof. Chan Lu, the workshops were led by faculty from three of AL&L's language programs: Prof. Liping Yu of the Chinese Program, Prof. Rie Tsujihara of the Japanese Program, and Prof. JungHee Kim and Prof. SeaHee Choi of the Korean Program.

Montgomery College is a two-year degree-granting institution, with designations as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander-Serving Institution. In 2024, Montgomery College received a grant from the Department of Education designed to foster connections between Asian language instruction and international studies programs, and to encourage students to see language instruction as instrumental within their larger instructional and career goals.

The workshops covered a range of topics; slides, handouts, and other materials from the presentations are available for use at the links below:
