INTRODUCTION TO JAPANESE LITERARY HUMOR. BEGINNING WITH JAPAN'S EARLIEST EXTANT TEXTS RIGHT UP TO THE PRESENT DAY, STUDENTS WILL READ COMIC PROSE, CRITICAL, AND HISTORICAL TEXTS WHICH WILL EQUIP THEM TO ANALYZE AND CRITIQUE HUMOR. NO JAPANESE LANGUAGE ABILITY IS REQUIRED.
