On March 30 Asian L&L faculty, students, and staff gathered together in the miraculously sunny quad to celebrate spring and the beautiful cherry blossoms with poetry.
After brief welcome remarks by Zev Handel, Paul Atkins started the celebration off by sharing two versions of a poem by Kobayashi Issa:

"The annual Washington State Speech and Skit Contest provides Japanese learners of all levels with the opportunity to compete with like-minded, skilled, and passionate students (high school division and college division) from all across Washington State. Professor of Japanese Paul Atkins and PhD student Nobuko Horikawa are co-authors, with an international team of researchers, of "Lunar eclipses illuminate timing and climate impact of medieval volcanism," published in Nature on April 5. On Saturday, April 22, Asian L&L Prof. EunYoung Won joined the UW School of Music, the Center for Korea Studies, and the East Asia Center in sponsoring "Korean Music Language Workshop: Learn Korean through K-Pop and More!" in Gowen 201.
