AL&L Undergrad Awarded Critical Languages Scholarship for Chinese

Submitted by Ben Rost on

Grace Rothmeyer, a member of the Chinese Flagship Program and a third-year double-major in Chinese and Informatics, has been awarded a Critical Languages Scholarship to allow her to further her studies in Chinese this summer.

As a participant in Chinese Flagship and a Foreign Languages and Area Studies (FLAS) awardee, Grace is an accomplished student of Chinese at UW. She hopes to go on to work in Taiwan after graduation, where she will use her Chinese to ease communication barriers and strengthen collaboration on environmental issues.

The CLS program offers competitive scholarships for American undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarships allow for an immersive learning opportunity through which students study one of thirteen critical languages at an intensive study abroad institute. Between 2008 and 2023, thirteen UW Seattle undergraduate students received CLS awards for Chinese.

Congratulations, Grace!
