Richard G. Salomon, Professor of Sanskrit and Buddhist Studies

Richard G. Salomon, Professor of Sanskrit and Buddhist Studies, was selected as the holder of the Willliam P. and Ruth Gerberding University Professorship, effective July 1, 2015.

The professorship, named in honor of William P. Gerberding (1929-2014), who served as the 27th president of the University of Washington from 1979 to 1995, and his wife, Ruth Gerberding, recognizes Professor Salomon’s “exceptional contributions and accomplishment” in his discipline, said Interim Provost Gerald Baldasty.

Professor Salomon is a leading figure in the field of early Buddhist studies, and serves as University of Washington Early Buddhist Manuscripts Project and as general editor of the Gandhāran Buddhist Texts series, published by the University of Washington Press.
