Biography
Yunhui's academic interest lies in Sino-Tibetan historical linguistics and syntax. He researched on Chinese historical syntax (with an emphasis on how northern Chinese contacted with Mongolian and Manchu) and dialectology when he studied at the Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
At UW, he broadened his interest into the study of Burmish languages and formal syntax. His UW MA thesis titled "In-situ or Ex-situ: the wh-adjunct hé in Old Chinese". In historical linguistics, he has been trying to apply the general comparative method to the horizontal comparison between Sinitic varieties by investigating on their basic lexicons. In syntax, he is particularly interested in wh-movement and DP structures.
