Biography
Anselma Widha Prihandita (she/her) is an PhD candidate in language and rhetoric and a writing instructor in the Department of English, University of Washington. Her research explores the intersections between writing pedagogy, decoloniality, and transnationalism. She is interested in questions such as how the university, academic discourse, and global production of knowledge can uphold epistemic racism; how writing and language education can be leveraged to undo this; and how historically marginalized students and teachers navigate teaching and learning that are often not culturally sustaining for them. She is currently the Multilingual Language Learners Coordinator at the Program in Writing and Rhetoric, and formerly its Assistant Director.
Besides her academic and pedagogical work, she is also a writer of speculative fiction, drawing inspiration from Indonesian folklore, mysticism, and futurism. Her short stories are published in Clarkesworld, khōréō, Cast of Wonders, Ghoulish Tales, and Haven Speculative, among others, and have been reviewed in Locus and Reactor. She attended the Odyssey Workshop in 2023 as their Fresh Voices Scholar, and the Clarion Workshop at UC San Diego in 2024 as their Octavia Butler Scholar.
