AL&L Student Chris McCarty Makes Husky 100

Submitted by Ben Rost on

Chris McCarty, an undergraduate student in the Department of Asian Languages & Literature double-majoring in Chinese and Political Science, has been recognized for the 2025 Husky 100. Each year, the Husky 100 recognizes 100 undergraduate, graduate and professional students from the UW Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma campuses in all areas of study who are making the most of their time at the University of Washington.

Chris, a junior with senior standing at the University of Washington, participated in the Chinese Flagship Program in 2023-2024, and was subsequently awarded a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship for the 2024-2025 academic year. Chris began studying Chinese in high school, and has continued at UW with a deeper dive into Chinese language, history, and culture through the wide range of classes offered at AL&L. After graduation, they hope to use their Chinese and political science background to support underserved populations.

Hear from Chris in their own words:

"My mission is education, advocacy and impact — something I realize through creating legislation to protect vulnerable populations. The UW has helped me realize my full potential for change: being in a community of dedicated students, professors and lifelong learners inspires me to push for a better world."

Join the Department of Asian Languages & Literature in congratulating Chris on this noteworthy achievement!
