Jackson School’s hybrid Thai courses to receive new course numbers

Submitted by Ben Rost on

The Center for Southeast Asia & Its Diasporas has been supporting Thai language courses in the Jackson School of International Studies since the course series moved over from Asian Languages & Literature in the fall quarter of 2018. The Jackson School’s Thai courses use an online learning system named Moodle, which is managed by the UW Language Learning Center. Students complete lessons, practice exercises, and quizzes in the Moodle system and meet with an instructor to review materials and practice the language with their classmates.

From fall 2018 through spring 2025, Thai language courses were offered under the course number JSIS 486, Special Topics in Southeast Asian Studies. Beginning in fall 2025 Thai courses will receive new course numbers and become searchable in MyPlan. The process for assigning these new numbers will delay the release of Thai courses in the fall 2025 time schedule. Students should check the time schedule regularly for updates and contact Michael Walstrom at mwal7@uw.edu with questions. The new course numbers are as follows:

Elementary Thai series: JSIS E 131, JSIS E 132, JSIS E 133

Intermediate Thai series: JSIS E 231, JSIS E 232, JSIS E 233

Advanced Thai series: JSIS E 331, JSIS E 332, JSIS E 333
