Submitted by Kirk L. Van Scoyoc on
The Chinese Language Flagship Program welcomes two newcomers to the program:
Let's welcome our new program coordinator Frances ZielonkaFrances is a two-time graduate of the UW Asian Languages and Literature's Chinese program (MA, 2011 and BA, 2009). She brings to the department 10 years of experience in digital, brand, and product strategy consulting for multinational clients across sectors. Frances seeks to apply her experience and knowledge in her role as Chinese Flagship Program Coordinator, guiding students through successful Flagship experiences, strategizing pathways to globally-engaged careers, and promoting the rewarding intellectual journey of learning Chinese at UW. She is passionate about leveraging her experience to promote something of true benefit to our students.

We also welcome our Flagship instructor Yan Zhu. Some of you may know her already from the East Asia Library Chinese tea hours. Yan holds an M.A. in Chinese linguistics from Fudan University and has decades of experience teaching Chinese as a second language at all levels.
We are very excited to have these two experienced, dedicated and passionate individuals on board!

Overseas Capstone Program updates:
-- Our first student who is admitted to Capstone, Philip Kim, is currently conducting his internship at the Sheng Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines (順益台灣原住民博物館).
-- Four more UW Flagship students left for Taiwan for their Capstone in August!
Congratulations to all the students! And enjoy your time in Taiwan!
