Beijing Summer Program

Beijing
China

We regret that the Beijing Summer Program is no longer running. It may be operational again in the future.

This program was last offered in 2019. The 2019 summer study abroad program to Beijing, China, was led by Professor Chan Lu and co-director Liping Yu.  Twenty UW students attended this UW faculty-led program for eight weeks from June 26 through August 24, 2019.  The program was housed in the Beijing Language and Culture University, the oldest and most renowned university in China for teaching Chinese as a second language.

Our 15 credit program encompasses morning intensive Chinese language classes, afternoon individual tutoring sessions with native Chinese speakers, and cultural classes covering topics such as martial arts, the Chinese tea ceremony, and calligraphy.  Students can also explore Beijing through field trips.

During the 8-week stay, the twenty UW students had the unique opportunity to meet and socialize on a regular basis with incoming UW students in Beijing through one of Husky Help Organization (HHO)'s send-offs in China.

This program was generously sponsored by scholarships from the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters through the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington and was a valuable and memorable experience for our students.

There are no plans to offer this program again in the near future, but if you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact Yu laoshi at lyu@uw.edu.
