Korean Special TA Positions - Autumn 2013

The Department of Asian Languages & Literature anticipates two Academic Student Employee positions of one-quarter duration during Autumn 2013 in the area of Korean. These positions will be at the Teaching Associate level, with responsibility for the preparation and teaching of one of the following two courses:

ASIAN 207 Special Topics in Literature and Culture of Asia (5, max. 10) I&S/VLPA
Introduction to the literature of one or more Asian traditions considered in its cultural context. Content varies depending on the specialization and interest of instructor.
KOREAN 415 Social Science Literature in Korean (5) VLPA
Readings in selections from contemporary Korean publications in social science topics.

Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
• Preparation and planning of all or some aspects of one one-quarter course
• Coordination with a faculty supervisor to ensure that course content is commensurate with departmental needs
• Preparing and presenting lectures
• Writing and administering examinations
• Assigning and grading assignments
• Holding regular office hours
• Consultation with department faculty and staff, as appropriate
• Calculating and submitting final grades

Hiring Criteria:
Applicant must be a current UW graduate student in good standing, and must remain registered for the duration of the appointment period (Autumn 2013). Applicant must have received an MA degree to qualify for a Teaching Associate I position. An applicant at the doctoral candidate level may be hired as Teaching Associate II.

Salary and Benefits:
Asian L&L TAships are standard 50% FTE appointments during the academic year. The salary is commensurate with each appointee's academic standing, and is paid bi-weekly. The appointments provide an operating fee waiver, which covers almost all of tuition at the Graduate Tier I level, and includes health insurance coverage. Appointees will be required to register for a minimum of ten credits per quarter.
