Seeing Music/Sensing Moods: The Ragamala in South Asian Painting

Molly E. Aitken (Associate Professor of Art History, City College of New York) will visit UW on April 4, 2014 and give a guest lecture in Sonal Khullar’s course ART H 214: Art of India, 12:30-1:20 PM, on ragamala (garland of ragas, or musical modes) paintings: "Seeing Music/Sensing Moods: The Ragamala in South Asian Painting." All interested faculty and students are welcome to attend.

Aitken is a specialist in Indian painting from the fifteenth though nineteenth centuries and the author of The Intelligence of Tradition in Rajput Painting (Yale, 2010).

Professor Aitken will also give a lecture at the Seattle Asian Art Museum on April 5, 2014.
